Allen Americans News Release

Game 6 - Tuesday, May 4 - Allen @ Rapid City (L 4-3): Allen started Game Six of the finals with three straight goals in the first period. Nino Musitelli scored his thirteenth postseason goal only 2:10 into the first period. The Americans would not strike again until Bruce Graham sniped the puck in from the right circle on the power play with 3:49 remaining in the opening frame. Three minutes later, Christian Gaudet notched a tally to increase Allen's lead to 3-0. Rapid City's Gio Flamminio managed to score a goal at 12:02 of the second period. After two periods, Chris Whitley stopped 23 of 24 shots, while Danny Battochio made 23 out of 26 saves. Blaine Jarvis brought the Rush within one goal with just less than five minutes remaining in the third period. Brendan Cook, hot of his hat trick in Game Five, tied the game 3-3 with 3:06 remaining in regulation. The Americans could not light the lamp again before the buzzer, so fans were treated to extra hockey. Neither team scored in the first overtime. Allen fired off 10 shots, while Rapid City put 15 pucks on net. The end-to-end hockey continued in the second overtime until Scott Wray clinched the cup for the Rush with 32 seconds left in the period.

Bowers Finishes As Top Scorer: 2010 CHL All-Star Starter Justin Bowers finished as the top scorer in the 2010 postseason with 30 points. He was just two shy of Greg Pankewicz's record of 32 for most points in a single playoff run. In Bowers' first postseason, he scored 12 goals and 18 assists in 20 games. He was twelfth in scoring in the CHL during the regular season, registering 73 points in 49 games.

Yellow Horn a Star in Finals: Colton Yellow Horn's 11 points (5-6=11) ended up as the most of any player during the finals. He assisted on all three Allen goals in Game 6 and notched points in the final five games of the series after going scoreless in Game 1, including his first professional hat trick in Game 3 en route to a 5-2 Americans win. Yellow Horn had the game winner and an assist in the victory.

Musitelli Lights the Lamp: Nino Musitelli finished as the leading goal scorer in the playoffs, finding the back of the net 13 times. He finished the postseason with 26 points and three game-winning goals. He had the series-clinching goal against Odessa in the Conference Finals.

Whitley Sets Three CHL Playoff Records: Americans' rookie netminder Chris Whitley set three postseason records during his rookie year. The backstop owns the records for most appearances by a goaltender (20), most minutes (1205:31) and the most saves (636) in a single postseason.

Making History: The Americans became the first expansion team to clinch a spot in the finals after the merger of the Central Hockey League with the Western Professional Hockey League in May of 2001. The Laredo Bucks fell short of this accomplishment in 2003 after losing in the Southern Conference Finals. The Indianapolis Ice is the only first-year team to win the CHL championship, which it did in 2000 before the merger. The WPHL's Ft. Worth Brahmas also played in the finals in 1997.
