Eight-Year-Old Allen Resident Wins Americans Season Ticket Drawing
May 4, 2010 - Central Hockey League (CHL) Allen Americans
ALLEN, Texas - Kyle Rubens, an eight-year-old from Allen, won a pair of season tickets for the Americans 2010-11 season. The Americans held a drawing last week, as part of Fan Appreciation Week to thank fans for their support during their inaugural season. When asked about how he felt, the boy was at a loss for words. "I'm happy. I'm excited. I didn't think I would win," Kyle said after he found out Monday afternoon.
Kyle goes to Kerr Elementary and attended several games throughout the 2009-10 season, starting with the New Year's Day 5-1 win over the Colorado Eagles and finishing with the last two home games of the Ray Miron Presidents' Cup Finals.
Hockey games are a family outing for Kyle's family. His parents, Paul and Kerri, accompany him, along with his five-year-old brother Nathan. "We're already sad that there won't be any more games until October, and we're looking forward to next season," Paul said.
The father is not surprised that Kyle was chosen as the winner of the drawing. "He's always had good luck with these things. He's won raffles for toys before. I didn't think he would win this, but he's got a trend for it," Paul said.
One of Kyle's favorite things about Americans games is when the team comes away with a victory. That happened often, as the Americans' home record during the regular season was 23-5-4.
Kyle also enjoys getting on the video board during the games. For Allen's last two home games, he made a "Dread the Red" sign and was shown Friday night in the arena on the big screens.
The eight-year-old made sure to get his poster autographed by the team before going home Saturday night. The players participated in an autograph session that lasted over an hour after their last home game. According to Paul, Kyle stood in line to get every single player to autograph his poster.
"We're really happy to have the Americans here. [The games] are a lot of fun and so close by. We're thrilled to have won the tickets," Paul said.
His wife echoes his sentiment. "Our family is thankful to the whole organization for what they have brought to Allen this year," Kerri said. "When we've gotten to meet the players at autograph sessions, they have always been very gracious and personable. I'm very happy my boys have a quality organization like the Allen Americans to support as the home team."
Fans can purchase season tickets for the 2010-11 season for as low as $9 per game. As always, there is free parking at every game. For more information, call 972-912-1000.
