Green Bay Gamblers News Release

(Green Bay, WI) - In 2009-2010the Green BayGamblers continued their commitment to raising funds and awareness for various local and national organizations and charities. These organizations and charities included the Vince Lombardi Cancer Clinic at Aurora BayCare, Area Youth Hockey, Center for Childhood Safety, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, Bay Beach Wildlife Sanctuary, Boys and Girls Club, and the Autism Society of Wisconsin. All in all, the Gamblers raised over $60,000. Funds were raised through ticket kickbacks, jersey auctions, celebrity waiter dinner and bartender functions and 50/50 raffle sales.

The Gamblers also collected 2,953 hats for Heavenly Hats, an organization that donates hats to people with cancer, 1,000 pairs of socks and underwear for those in need in Green Bay and its surrounding areas, 1,200 pairs of mittens for Warm Hearts and Warm Hands and 6,437 teddy bears through the annual Teddy Bear Toss.

Along with raising funds and collecting much needed items, the players, coaches and front office staff also volunteered countless hours to various community programs. These programs include assisting at area youth hockey practices, reading and discussing the importance of excelling in the classroom to elementary students across Northeast Wisconsin and Special Olympics. The players also showed their support to those battling cancer, as the entire team shaved their heads for the annual Caps for Cancer game in October.

"The rising of the Gamblers in the last 2 years on the ice has been matched with more commitment than ever to the community off the ice", says Gamblers team president Brendan Bruss. "We stated from the time we revamped the team, the logo, the brand; that giving to the community was not a 'nice to do', but a 'shall do.' This year speaks for itself and will not be an aberration for what the Gamblers give back to the Green Bay community."
