Mississauga St. Michael's Majors News Release

Barrie, ON- The Mississauga St. Michael's Majors fell to the Barrie Colts 3-1 tonight at the Molson Centre. As a result the Colts take a 2-1 lead in the Rogers Eastern Conference Championship series.

After handing the Colts their first loss of the post season thanks in large part to the success of their special teams unit, the Majors took a step back tonight. The power play unit failed to score on all four opportunities during the game. Mississauga held a 1-0 lead after the first period and outplayed Barrie for majority of the opening twenty minutes. Barrie responded to take the lead in the second and held it for the remainder of the contest.

Just over two minutes into the game T.J. Battani put the Majors ahead 1-0. Battani took the pass from Cameron Gaunce and skated in to the faceoff circle and fired at Mavric Parks, beating the Colts netminder for his third of the post season. Mississauga continued to take it to Barrie creating legitimate scoring opportunities but could not put it past Parks. Mississauga had two power play chances in the opening twenty minutes but failed on both chances. The Colts escaped the first period down by one.

Luke Pither and the Barrie Colts tied the game just 32 seconds into the second period, with Pither's sixth of the playoffs. Pither's goal was similar to Battani's opening marker, as Pither ripped a shot from the faceoff circle beating JP Anderson up high. Barrie turned took the momentum and continued to press against Mississauga, continually firing at Anderson. At 16:39 of the period Pither scored his second of the game to put Barrie ahead 2-1. Alex Pietrangelo was a big reason for the goal after sending a crisp pass to the stick of Pither at the side of the Majors goal. Pither re-directed the pass past Anderson, who just got a piece of it but it would't be enough to stop it from giving Barrie the lead. The Colts continued to outplay Mississauga, out shooting the Majors by 25-9 but Anderson kept St. Mike's in the game. The Colts took the 2-1 lead into the dressing room.

Barrie started the third period with a few seconds remaining on the power play and it would take just eleven seconds to score. Bryan Cameron was alone in the slot and fired a bullet past Anderson to make it 3-1 for Barrie. The early goal proved to be enough for Barrie as they grabbed the victory and the lead in the series. Mavric Parks stopped 34 shots to grab the victory for Barrie. JP Anderson made 55 saves for the Majors and was a big reason for the low score.

Game four of the series returns to Mississauga on Monday night, with puck drop set for 7:00 p.m. Tickets can be purchased through the Hershey Centre box office or by calling the Majors office at (905) 502-7788 x.1.
