Rancho Cucamonga Quakes News Release

Rancho Cucamonga, CA - The Rancho Cucamonga Quakes dropped their third straight game on Monday night, falling to the Modesto Nuts in the opening game of a three-game series. Brian Rike's two-run homer in the sixth snapped a 2-all tie, putting Modesto in front for good, on their way to a 5-2 win.

Rike's homer, his first of the year, came off of Quakes' starter Manuel Flores (0-1) who pitched well in defeat. Flores allowed four runs on seven hits over six innings, making just the one mistake in the sixth inning.

Modesto added a run in the ninth on a two-out RBI triple by James Cesario, making it 5-2 against Quakes' reliever Eddie McKiernan.

Beau Brooks got the ninth started with an infield hit, but the Quakes couldn't bring the tying run to the plate, as Tyson Auer fouled out to end the game, giving Nuts' reliever Adam Jorgenson his second save of the year.

The Quakes had at least one base runner in each of the last seven innings, stranding a total of nine men on the night.

Darwin Perez gave the Quakes the lead in the third, as his RBI triple off Modesto starter Dan Houston (1-0) made it 1-0.

After Modesto tied it in the fourth, Rancho Cucamonga came right back to take the lead in the bottom of the inning, as Angel Castillo's RBI single put the Quakes up 2-1.

Castillo led the offense with two hits, giving him five in the last two games.

The Quakes (1-4) send Manaurys Correa to the mound on Tuesday night, as he makes his 2010 debut, taking on Modesto right-hander Juan Nicasio at 7:05pm.
