Stephen Silas Named to Canada's Under 18 Roster

Belleville Bulls defenceman Stephen Silas is one of 22 players selected to represent Canada at the World Under 18 Hockey Championship being held April 13-23 in Minsk and Bobruisk, Belarus. Bulls General Manager and Head Coach George Burnett will serve as an Assistant Coach for the event while Ryan Bennett will be Canada's Athletic Therapist.

The roster is comprised of players born in 1992 or earlier whose teams are no longer competing in the CHL playoffs with their respective club teams. Many of Canada's players named will be among the top selections at the 2010 NHL Entry Draft in June.

Silas recently completed his second season with Belleville in which he recorded four goals and 49 points in 66 games played. The Georgetown, Ontario native has previously won gold medals with Ontario at the 2009 World Under 17 Hockey Challenge and with Canada at the 2009 U18 Memorial of Ivan Hlinka Tournament. Silas also participated in the Subway Super Series and the Home Hardware CHL/NHL Top Prospects Game this past season.

The team will fly to Europe on April 6 and will play an exhibition game versus Finland in Minsk on April 9. The 2010 IIHF World Under-18 Championship opens for Canada on April 13 in Bobruisk when they face on Switzerland. The Canadians will also play Belarus, Sweden and the United States in the preliminary round. TSN will be showing Canada's last preliminary round game versus Sweden on April 18 along with all of their playoff round games.
