Allen Americans News Release
LAREDO, Texas - The Allen Americans fell 5-1 in Laredo tonight after allowing two power play goals. Allen falls behind 3-2 in the best-of-seven Conference Semifinals series.
Laredo forward Evan Schwabe scored on the game's first shot at 1:16 of the opening period. Sylvain Deschatelets followed that up with his first goal of the series at 13:50 on the power play. Down 2-0 after 20 minutes, Allen matched Laredo shot for shot, throwing 10 pucks on net.
Forward Brent Cullaton scored Laredo's third straight goal 3:06 into the middle frame. Head Coach and General Manger Dwight Mullins replaced backstop Chris Whitley with David McKee immediately after the goal to shake things up. McKee started off strong in net, making save after save. His play combined with big hits helped the Americans crank up the intensity in the latter part of the period until an open Mike Looby found the back of the net at 15:57. Looby's goal provided a 4-0 lead for the Bucks.
The Americans rebounded with good puck movement on a power play that led to a goal by Bruce Graham. The tally put Allen on the board and made the score 4-1 before the second intermission. The Americans registered 20 shots in the period, almost twice as many as Laredo's 12.
Hungry for a comeback, Allen limited the Bucks to six shots in the third and fired 12 of their own. The Americans were unable to light the lamp in the final frame, and Cullaton grabbed his second of the night for Laredo. The final score was 5-1.
Whitley made 11 saves in 23:06, and McKee stopped 12 shots in 36:54. Allen outshot Laredo 42-28. Bucks netminder Pier-Olivier Pelletier saved 41 pucks.
Allen has lost every game in the series in which it has given up two goals in a single period.
The Americans were without forward Matt Radoslovich after the league handed him a one-game suspension for his hit on Paul Elliott in the April 1 contest.
Odessa beat Texas 2-1 tonight in the other Southern Conference Semifinals series. The Jackalopes now lead the series 3-2 after coming back from a 2-0 deficit. Rapid City finished its sweep of the other CHL expansion team, Missouri, last night in a 7-6 overtime victory. Rapid City will now face Bossier-Shreveport in the Northern Conference Finals beginning April 10.
Allen looks forward to evening the series in Game Six, which is set for April 6 at 7:30 p.m. The club has lost three games in row only once this year, falling to Odessa in three straight contests in December.
If forced to seven games, Allen will host the final contest Wednesday, April 7, at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are available for both games by calling 972-912-1000 or by visiting www.gettix.net. Fans may exchange tickets for any unplayed games for future contests.
