67's tie series with convincing win

Ottawa, ON- The Mississauga St. Michael's Majors tasted defeat for the first time in the 2010 playoffs after dropping game two to the Ottawa 67's _ tonight at the Urbandale Centre. The series is now tied at 1-1.

After taking game one last night the Majors failed to go up by two as the series will now head back to Mississauga for the next two games. The Majors were able to grab the lead early in the first only to lose it and open the flood gates in the second period. Riley Brace opened the scoring at 1:12 of the first period for Mississauga. T.J. Battani and Brace skated in past the blue line and Battani left the puck for Brace, who fired at goal and beat Petr Mrazek low glove side to put the Majors ahead 1-0. The tide shifted midway through the first period as Ottawa began to take the game to Mississauga. Their persistence paid off and the 67's tied the game at 14:29 from Dalton Smith. Cody Lindsay jumped on a loose puck behind the Majors goal and made a centering pass to Smith who put it away. The 67's power play unit put Ottawa ahead 2-1 at 16:08, after Anthony Nigro stole the puck off Brett Flemming and jammed it past Chris Carrozzi. The 2-1 scoreline held after twenty minutes.

The second period is one the Majors will like to soon forget as they surrendered four goals to Ottawa after tying the game midway through the period. Casey Cizikas drew the Majors even at 10:37. After a series of saves from Mrazek, Cizikas was eventually able to knock in a rebound to make it 2-2. The 67's grabbed the lead at 12:12 with another power play goal and did't look back, scoring four goals in under six minutes. Ottawa won the draw in the Majors end, after a failed clearing attempt Tyler Toffoli grabbed the loose puck and fired on goal beating Carrozzi. Just over a minute later Anthony Nigro made it 4-2 for Ottawa. Tyler Toffoli stole the puck and skated in with Nigro and made a centering pass to Nigro. Nigro's shot beat Carrozzi. Corey Cowick and Shane Prince added goals to close out the second period with a 6-2 scoreline for Ottawa.

JP Anderson started in goal for Mississauga in the third period and faced 13 shots and allowed one goal to Ryan Martindale on the power play at 9:39 to make it 7-2 and that's how it would end. The Majors power play unit continues to struggle in the playoffs as it failed to score tonight during five attempts. The 67's power play unit converted four of their ten opportunities tonight. Petr Mrazek who took over in goal from game one starter Chris Perugini turned aside 26 of the 28 shots he faced to grab the victory for Ottawa. Carrozzi and Anderson combined for 32 saves on 39 shots, Carrozzi takes the loss for Mississauga.
