March 24, 2010 - International League (IL1)
Syracuse Mets News Release

Syracuse, NY--The Syracuse Chiefs, Triple-A affiliate of the Washington Nationals, are pleased to announce that the team's entire schedule of games will air on SportsRadio 620 WHEN. This season will be the third consecutive and the 21st overall that the Chiefs will be broadcast on 620.

"We look forward to continuing our great partnership with WHEN this season," said General Manager John Simone. "The staff at the radio station has helped put together a great product over the years and we will continue to build on that partnership in 2010."

Jason Benetti begins his first full season as the lead play-by-play announcer for the team. He filled in on Chiefs broadcasts in 2005 and spent 2006 and 2009 with the Chiefs as the secondary play-by-play announcer to Bob McElligott, who left the team near the end of last season to take a position with the Columbus Blue Jackets of the NHL.

Benetti spends the offseason as the play-by-play announcer for High Point University men's basketball in North Carolina. He also is the studio host for Georgia football's radio network through the school's rightsholder, ISP Sports. He also has done play-by-play and studio work for the Big East Conference. Between his stints with the Chiefs, Benetti was the lead play-by-play announcer for the Salem Avalanche, the Class A-Advanced affiliate of the Houston Astros. He also called a season of baseball with the Windy City ThunderBolts of the Frontier League in 2005. A native of Homewood, Illinois, Benetti graduated from Syracuse University in 2005.

Benetti will be joined on the broadcasts by Mike Couzens. The White Plains, New York native will provide pre-game, in-game and post-game score updates and will also do play-by-play and color commentary. For the last two years, Couzens was a play-by-play announcer for the Falmouth Commodores of the Cape Cod Baseball League in Massachusetts. Couzens can currently be heard as a news reporter for WSYR Radio, WHEN's sister station. He is also the General Manager for WJPZ Radio and a sports reporter for WAER Radio in Syracuse.

The broadcast team this season will also include special guest announcers commemorating the Chiefs' 50 years of community ownership. Benetti and Couzens will be joined in the booth periodically by Syracuse broadcasters from the last five decades.

Coverage will feature a thirty-minute pregame show which will feature interviews, highlights and feature reports. The broadcast team will also contribute written, audio and video content to the team's official website, SyracuseChiefs.com.
