Tri-City Dust Devils first aid and security supervisor Gene Tolley was honored Thursday at the 8th annual American Red Cross Real Heroes breakfast presented by the Benton-Franklin Chapter of the American Red Cross. He was among ten people or groups recognized for heroic actions in the community, and was awarded in the "Workplace Safety" category.

On August 20, 2009, Tolley, along with fans Donna Furlong and Peggy Henry, was credited with saving the life of Grace Lunde, who went into cardiac arrest in the stands along the third base line at Gesa Stadium during a game against the Spokane Indians. Tolley alternated with Furlong in administering CPR to Lunde, and used a defibrillator in order to bring back her pulse, which had been absent for four minutes. Lunde was then transported by emergency medical technicians to Kadlec Regional Medical Center, where she recovered in full.

Tolley gave credit to Furlong, a nurse with the Kennewick School District, and Henry, a nurse with the Pasco School District, without whom "this would have taxed our entire staff" on a night with 2,250 in attendance. Tolley, a firefighting/first-aid training Lieutenant for the Hanford Fire Department, elaborated in August, "A lot of people don't realize how huge it is to have a first-aid center here. If I do nothing else all year except this, it paid for itself tonight."

Opening Day of the 2010 season at Gesa Stadium is June 21st versus Eugene. Ticket plans are on sale now and start at just $49, with full-season tickets available for as low as $259. Special ticket rates are available for groups of 20 or more. Season tickets, mini-plans, and group tickets can be purchased by contacting the Dust Devils front office at (509) 544-8789 or at the Gesa Stadium box office.
