Columbus Cottonmouths News Release
The Columbus Cottonmouths players and staff will head to Pine Mountain Valley, Georgia Wednesday, Feb. 24 from 6 pm to 1 am to volunteer for ABC's Emmy award-winning reality show, Extreme Makeover: Home Edition.
Extreme Makeover: Home Edition will be building a new home for the family of Jennifer and Jeremy Williams. The couple has a daughter Josie, 8, and six-year old son, Jacob. Jacob was born with Spina Bifida and is confined to a wheelchair. Jeremy, a former football player at Columbus' Kendrick High School, began having trouble with his hands in 2005, and was later diagnosed with ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig's Disease. Jeremy's motor skills are deteriorating and he too, will soon be confined to a wheelchair. He has spent eight seasons as head football coach at Greenville High School, and led his team to a perfect 11-0 record last season.
The crew and volunteers for Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, led by Ty Pennington, will work tirelessly to build a new home to better accommodate Jacob's and Jeremy's disabilities. The seven-day process began last Sunday, Feb. 21. The 'Move That Bus!' house revealing is scheduled for this Saturday, Feb. 27.
"We were able to meet the Williams family last year when we donated a new sports wheelchair to Jacob," General Manager and Head Coach, Jerome Bechard said. "The family's outlook on life and Jacob's positive energy is inspiring. It definitely makes you step back and put things into perspective. The entire community can learn a lot from this family, and how they've dealt with real hardships in life. We're so honored to do whatever we can to help out; this family certainly deserves it."
The Cottonmouths head to Pensacola, Fla., tonight to face the Ice Flyers at 8:05 EST. After five consecutive road games, they return to the Snake Pit this weekend for a pair of games against the Huntsville Havoc. Friday, Feb. 26 is Military Appreciation Night presented by TIC Federal Credit Union and the Columbus Airport. The Snakes face the Havoc again Sunday, Feb. 28 at 4 p.m. Sunday is Burger King Kid's Day. Free child's tickets can be picked up at area Burger Kings.
