
Saints Outfielder Anthony Norman's Contract Purchased By Pittsburgh Pirates

ST. PAUL, MN (February 5, 2010) - The St. Paul Saints have one of the more storied Minor League franchises in the country, not just because of their national success with promotions, but also because of the talent they produce on the field. Saints outfielder Anthony Norman had his contract purchased by the Pittsburgh Pirates making him the 95th player in Saints history to be drafted or have his contract purchased by a Major League organization.
The 25-year-old Norman joined the Saints as a free agent on June 26 of last season and hit.264 with two homers and 19 RBI in 39 games. In 144 at bats he scored 21 runs, ripped 11 doubles and one triple while stealing five bases. He finished with a.396 slugging percentage and a.351 on base percentage. He set an American Association record with five walks on August 28 vs. Sioux City.
Norman was signed as a free agent by the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim in 2007 and reached Single-A Rancho Cucamonga of the California League in 2008 and began the season there in 2009. He was voted an Arizona League All-Star outfielder in 2007 and was the leagues MVP.
The Saints had four other players from 2009 either drafted or signed by Major League Organizations. Pitcher Tanner Scheppers was drafted by the Texas Rangers, 44th overall, and Hamline University graduate Dan Kaczrowski was drafted in the 26th round by the Arizona Diamondbacks. Outfielder Ole Sheldon had his contract purchased by the Cleveland Indians and All-Star pitcher Brandon Kintzler had his contract purchased by the Milwaukee Brewers.
The Saints currently have five players under contract for the 2010 season, three pitchers and two position players.
