COMSTOCK PARK, MI - The West Michigan Whitecaps announced today that Ben Chiswick has been named the new radio play-by-play announcer for the Whitecaps.

Chiswick spent the last four seasons as director of broadcasting and media relations for the fellow Midwest League Quad Cities River Bandits. He comes to West Michigan with a solid resume which includes a stint with the Class AA Bowie BaySox as well as a Chicago television station and a Washington, D.C. radio station. He graduated from George Washington University in 2004 with a Bachelor of Arts and from Northwestern University in 2008 with a Master's degree in sports administration. Chiswick is originally from Evanston, IL.

Chiswick replaces local radio veteran Steve Lloyd-Jones, who left to pursue other interests after one season behind the microphone. In addition to his play-by-play role, Chiswick will handle the baseball-related media relations duties, including press releases regarding player transactions, creating the team's media guide, and writing game day notes for the media. He will join the organization in March.

Chiswick will be joined in the Whitecaps booth by Dan Elve, who has been providing color commentary for Whitecaps home games (and selected road games) since 2005. 107.3 FM WBBL will continue to be the Whitecaps flagship station.

Jim Jarecki, vice president of Whitecaps Professional Baseball, said that Ben's experience in both sports broadcasting as well as in media relations made him stand out from a large pool of candidates.

"We're fortunate to get such a quality play-by-play broadcaster as we've found in Ben," Jarecki said. "His experience and overall professionalism impressed us right from the start. His play-by-play skills are strong, as is his media relations background. I'm excited that Ben will be joining the Whitecaps organization."

Chiswick seconded the sentiment. "I'm really excited about this opportunity to join the Whitecaps," he said. "It's a first class organization, with a great fan base and a ballpark that looks great after 16 seasons. Fifth Third Ballpark has always been my favorite place to play on the road, and I'm really looking forward to getting to Grand Rapids and being a part of the Whitecaps organization."

The 2010 Whitecaps baseball season begins on April 8, with the home opener scheduled for Sunday, April 11 at 2 p.m. against the Fort Wayne TinCaps. Season, group tickets and individual tickets are now on sale and can be purchased by calling the Whitecaps front office at 616-784-4131 or visiting whitecapsbaseball.com.
