
Houston Aeros Win Streak Snapped At 3 With 5-2 Loss To Chicago Wolves

ROSEMONT, IL - The Houston Aeros dropped the third of a season-high five-game road trip Wednesday night, 5-2 to the Chicago Wolves in front of 4,626 at Allstate Arena. LW Colton Gillies and RW JM Daoust each scored for Houston while G Wade Dubielewicz made 29 saves in the loss. C Jason Krog led Chicago with a goal and an assist; LW Brett Sterling added two goals and G Kari Lehtonen made 25 saves in the loss.
Chicago, winners of nine of their last ten games, jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the first period. Krog put the Wolves on the board at 7:06 on the power-play after JP Testwuide was called for interference. RW Tim Stapleton then gave the Wolves a 2-0 lead 90 seconds later at 8:36 with a deflection in front of Dubielewicz.
The Aeros power-play went 8-for-13 in Abbotsford last weekend and continued its streak as they responded with a goal at 15:38. Gillies moved out from the half wall and fired a shot past Lehtonen to cut the deficit in half to 2-1; RW Duncan Milroy and D Jamie Fraser assisted on the power-play goal.
The Wolves regained control in the second period, dominating the first half of the period as the Aeros did not have a shot in the first 10 minutes of the frame. Sterling then gave Chicago a 3-1 lead at 12:02. RW Danny Irmen fired a shot just over the crossbar and on the rebound the Wolves took control. C Johnny Pohl entered the Aeros zone and found Sterling wide open on the back door for the easy goal, his 24th of the season. RW Joey Crabb then extended the lead at 7:46 of the third period with Chicago's second power-play goal of the night.
Daoust added his 16th of the season after the Aeros won a faceoff in the offensive zone. C Chad Rau and Irmen received the assists on the goal at 12:40 of the final period. Rau's 15th assist of the season moves him into a tie for 12th among AHL rookies with 26 points (11-15=26).
Sterling added an empty net goal at 15:17 as the Aeros pulled Dubielewicz for the extra attacker. Chicago out-shot Houston 34-27 for the game. The Wolves went 2-for-3 on the power-play while the Aeros scored on their only power-play opportunity in the game.
