Calgary Stampeders News Release

Calgary Stampeders head coach and general manager John Hufnagel is pleased to announce that defensive coordinator/assistant director, player personnel Chris Jones has signed a contract extension with the club.

"I have been offered and have accepted an extension to my contract with the Calgary Stampeder Football Club," said Jones. "Along with the extension, I have been offered an expanded role within the personnel department. The Calgary Stampeders have very solid individuals in leadership roles and I feel at this time it is in my best interest to learn from them. My family and I love the city of Calgary and we are very excited about being with the Stampeders in the near future."

Jones joined the Stampeders in 2008 after six years with the Montreal Alouettes. Even though the Stamps had only two returning starters, Calgary allowed the fewest points in the CFL in Jones' first season as defensive coordinator. The Stamps defence was the stingiest among West Division teams in 2009 and ranked third overall. In eight seasons in the CFL, Jones has been to the playoffs every year and has coached in the Grey Cup on five occasions while winning a pair of titles including the 2008 championship in his first season with Calgary.

"I have appreciated Chris' enthusiasm in his work during the off-season the past two years within our personnel department," said Hufnagel. "With this extension, it not only provides this team with a great defensive coordinator, but also an opportunity for Chris to expand his expertise within an organization."
