Cornish Back With Red And White

Calgary Stampeders head coach and general manager John Hufnagel is pleased to announce that non-import running back Jon Cornish has signed a contract extension with the club. Cornish was scheduled to become a free agent on Feb. 15, 2010. As per team policy, terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

"Jon has established himself as a very solid contributor to our team on offence and on special teams," said Hufnagel. "He always responds when given the opportunity and takes pride in all of his responsibilities."

Cornish missed the first three games of 2009 with an injury, but dressed for the final 15 regular-season contests and both playoff matchups. He carried the ball 20 times for 105 yards and two majors while adding eight receptions for 76 yards and a touchdown. He was also a force on special teams, notching 18 tackles.

"I am very happy to be a member of the Stampeders for the foreseeable future," said Cornish. "Playing with the Stamps has been a great learning tool for me and I hope that through my continued development, I will be able to further contribute to this team down the road."

Cornish enters his fourth season with Calgary after being drafted by the Stamps in the second round (10th overall) of the 2006 CFL Canadian Draft.
