Columbus Cottonmouths forward Orrin Hergott has been named the SPHL player of the week for the week of Jan. 3. Hergott is in his sixth season with the Snakes, and currently has 10 goals and eight assists on the season. He collected three goals and two assists in three games last week.

In Wednesday's 5-3 loss to Mississippi Surge, the Humboldt, Saskatchewan native had a hand in all three Columbus goals, assisting on the first two and collecting a third-period powerplay goal. Hergott lifted the Snakes to an overtime victory over the Surge on Friday, recording the game-winner at 1:35 of the overtime period. He also had a short-handed goal in the first period of Friday's game.

Hergott has spent his entire professional career as a Snake, joining the team in 2004 for the inaugural SPHL season. As a rookie in 2004, Hergott helped lead the Snakes to the SPHL championship. In five seasons with Columbus, the 5'7" speedster has collected 204 points in 262 games. He is an alternate captain, and one of the team's three veterans.

The Snakes hit the road for a pair of games this week, heading to Huntsville Thursday and Knoxville Friday. They return to the Snake Pit Sunday for a 4 p.m. game against the Fayetteville FireAntz. For more information, contact the Cottonmouths at 706 571 0086.
