
Snakes Go 1-2 On Opening Weekend Of 2010

Columbus Cottonmouths News Release
COLUMBUS, Ga. - The Columbus Cottonmouths went 1-2 over the opening weekend of 2010, with a pair of road losses sandwiched around a home victory Friday over the Pensacola IceFlyers. This week features three games in four nights. The Cottonmouths will travel to Biloxi to take on the second-place Mississippi Surge Wednesday night, and return home for a pair of home games Friday and Saturday. Friday will feature a rematch with the Surge and the Louisiana IceGators visit the Snake Pit on Saturday for the first time since Nov. 20. All three games will be broadcast on B2 Networks with both a video and audio feed, with a nominal fee for each game. A free audio-only broadcast of the games are also available. Wednesday, Jan. 6 - Columbus at Mississippi, 8:05 PM EST (Season Series vs. MIS: 1-1-0)
The Snakes head to Biloxi for just the second time this season. Their first trip resulted in a 1-0 loss to the Surge. Columbus defeated the Surge 5-4 in a shootout at home on Nov. 28, a game that the Snakes led 4-0 with just six minutes left in regulation. The Surge stormed back, collecting four consecutive goals in a 5:13 span to send the game into overtime and eventually a shootout. Tim Green leads the Snakes' offensive attack against the Surge, collected a goal and two assists in two meetings. Mississippi has crept into second place in the SPHL standings and is currently on a three-game winning streak. They defeated the first-place Huntsville Havoc on Saturday, Jan. 2, giving the Havoc just their third loss of the season.
Friday, January 8 - Mississippi at Columbus, 7:30 PM EST (Season Series vs. MIS: 1-1-0)
The Snakes will battle the Surge for the second time this week as they visit the Snake Pit on Friday. Mississippi's last visit resulted in a 5-4 shootout loss for the Surge.

Saturday, January 9 - Louisiana at Columbus, 7:30 PM EST (Season Series vs LOU 1-1-0)
The Snakes will conclude the weekend at home against the Louisiana IceGators. This will be the third meeting between the two teams and Louisiana's second trip to the Snake Pit. In the first meeting in SPHL history between the two teams, the Snakes fell to the IceGators on the road 2-1. On November 20, the Snakes defeated Louisiana 4-1 at the Snake Pit. Snakes rookie forward Levi Lind has recorded three goals and an assist in two games against the IceGators. Cottonmouths goaltenders Ian Vigier and Chad Rycroft have each faced the IceGators. The Snakes have only given up three goals combined in two games.

Thursday, Dec. 31 - Columbus 3 at Fayetteville 4 (Attendance: 3,236)
The Snakes played catch-up all game, battling back from three one-goal deficits, but came up just short as the FireAntz picked up the 4-3 victory. Mark Versteeg-Lytwyn gave Fayetteville a 1-0 lead. Tim Green tied it up for the Snakes with a powerplay goal at 18:07 of the second period. The third period featured five goals scored, as the Snakes and `Antz exchanged goals back and forth. Fayetteville held a 4-2 lead with 3:09 remaining in the game. Orrin Hergott cut the lead to one with 2:36 remaining, but the Snakes failed to get the equalizer, and fell 4-3. Chad Rycroft stopped 35 of 39 shots in the loss. The Snakes were 1 for 6 on the powerplay, while Fayetteville was 1 for 4.
Friday, Jan. 1 - Pensacola 3 at Columbus 4 (Attendance: 2,438)
The Snakes started 2010 with a victory over the Pensacola IceFlyers. After a scoreless first period, Dan Leslie and Levi Lind collected goals just 42 seconds apart in the opening three minutes of the second period. Orrin Hergott and Tyler Johnson added a pair of powerplay goals in the third to give the Snakes a 4-3 victory. Chad Rycroft stopped 37 of 40 shots in the victory. Pensacola was 2 for 10 on the powerplay while Columbus was 2 for 8.
Saturday, Jan. 2 - Columbus 1 at Pensacola 6 (Attendance: 3,176)
The Snakes headed to Pensacola for their third game in three nights. The Snakes traveled with just 13 skaters, as Tim Hockley and Jeff Martens stayed behind to nurse injuries. The Snakes current roster is short one player, as forward Nicolas Boucher left the team earlier this week. Dan Buccella gave Pensacola a 1-0 lead in the first. After a scoreless second period, the IceFlyers came alive in the third, peppering 18 shots on Ian Vigier, and recording five goals in the period. Pensacola was 3 for 7 on the powerplay while Columbus was 1 for 5. Ian Vigier stopped 32 of 38 shots in the loss.
THREE STARS OF THE WEEK
1. D Kyle Lundale - Lundale assisted on all three goals in the Snakes 4-3 loss in Fayetteville on Thursday. He also assisted on the first goal of Friday's game. On the weekend he picked up 4 assists and was +3.
2. F Orrin Hergott - Hergott collected the Snakes' third goal in both Friday's and Saturday's game.
3. F Levi Lind - Lind had an assist on Thursday, and a goal and an assist on Friday.
