
Blades Send Strong Group To World Under-17 Challenge

The Saskatoon Blades will be well represented at the 2010 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge from Dec. 29th to Jan. 4th in Timmins, Ontario as three current roster players and one prospect will be participating.
Current Blades' defensemen Duncan Siemens (Sherwood Park, AB) and Dalton Thrower (North Vancouver, BC) have been named to the roster of Team Pacific for the tournament. Meanwhile, current Blades' forward Brent Benson (Weyburn, SK) and prospect goaltender Tyler Oswald (Sanford, MB) will suit as members of Team West for the tournament.
Siemens has played 32 games this season and has 1 goal and 7 assists for 8 points with 51 penalty minutes. The Blades selected Siemens in the 1st round (3rd overall) in the 2008 WHL Bantam Draft.
Thrower has played 25 games this season and has 2 assists to go along with 25 penalty minutes. The Blades took Thrower in the 2nd round (30th overall) in the 2008 WHL Bantam Draft.
Benson has played 34 games this season and has 5 goals and 6 assists for 11 points to go along with 24 penalty minutes. The Blades selected Benson in the 1st round (6th overall) in the 2008 WHL Bantam Draft.
Oswald, a prospect on the Blades' player protected list, is playing for the Pembina Valley Hawks (MMAAAHL) for the second straight year. Through 13 games this season, Oswald has an 8-4-1 record with a 2.37 goals against average and a.923 save percentage. The Blades selected Oswald in the 5th round (96th overall) in the 2008 WHL Bantam Draft.
The World Under-17 Hockey Challenge is an annual event held in Canada since 1986. The tournament splits Canada into five regions (Pacific, West, Ontario, Quebec, Atlantic) and also features teams from the United States, Czech Republic, Finland, and Russia.
