Springfield Jr. Blues News Release
Dateline: Springfield, Illinois December 20, 2009 Springfield Jr. Blues vs. Wichita Falls Wildcats
Frustration reached the boiling point last night as "penalty" was the name of the game during the third period. Still the on ice officials did what they had to do to keep the game under control, because it could have easily deteriorated into a free for all. With that in mind, we play the third game this Sunday afternoon. A sweep by our team would make a great Christmas present to take home for the break. Win, lose or draw these Jr. Blues guys have been super in their diligence and dedication during the first half of the season. With all the injuries, crazy puck bounces and some adverse calls against them (the goals that didn't count for example) they have hung in there and pulled together. This is a sterling bunch of young gentlemen and I know the parents are proud of their sons, as well as the rest of the team.
The first period carried a lot of "chirping" by the players on the ice and a few penalties along with some pushing and shoving. The teams played even until late in the first when the Wildcats scored two quick goals. We must wait through the intermission to see if the Jr. Blues can score in bunches like they did last night. One must wonder if perhaps the good guys are looking past the game to a much needed Christmas break. Several of the players are leaving for home right after the end of the game. We'll see if they come back on an obviously less talented team. So, Let's go Blues!
What can you say about the second period? The goons were turned loose and the pushing and shoving turned into several fights with Kevin O'Donnell and one of the Wildcat players both being ejected. The Wildcats definitely are doing what they need to do to take a victory back to Texas. Like it or not they are still up 3 - 1. So, I say again, Let's go Blues! Period three is next.
What a period! The Jr. Blues come back and tie the game at 3 - 3, send the game to overtime, but lose it with a Wildcat goal at 1:01 of play. Still we picked up 5 points this weekend to take over third place in our division. A long day, a long game and still a valuable point gained in the standings. It was a five point gain in the standings and a jump from fourth to third for the holidays.
Our next game will be January 1st, 2010 and we'll bring you the game summary from the "Nellie", so everyone...Have a very Merry Christmas and a Happy, safe New Year.
