B.C. Lions News Release
(VANCOUVER) The BC Lions Football Club is mourning the loss of Roy Shatzko who passed away on Thursday, December 10th at the age of 69.
Shatzko joined the Lions in 1965 by way of a trade with the Calgary Stampeders who had drafted him in February that year. Roy added even more depth to an already formidable BC defence coached by Jim Champion and nicknamed the Headhunters.
Shatzko, a 6'2" 238-pound defensive lineman played his university football at UBC and backed up a pair of Leo legends in Mike Cacic and Dick Fouts along the Lions' defensive line.
In the days of limited defensive stats reporting, Roy recovered three fumbles in his career and played in all 32 games during the 1965 and 1966 seasons before moving on to Edmonton for five more seasons eventually finishing up his CFL career in 1972 with a total of 112 regular season games.
