Wilmington Blue Rocks News Release
Wilmington, DE - The Wilmington Blue Rocks will show their support for healthy community students on Monday, Dec. 14 at the New Castle Police Athletic League at Garfield Park, by rewarding members of the CHAMPIONS program. CHAMPIONS Powered By Titus Sports Academy is a free student-fitness program offered by The Colonial Educational Foundation (www.colonialeducationalfoundation.com), The Police Athletic League (www.palde.org ) and Titus Sports Academy (www.TitusSports.com ), to third, fourth and fifth-grade students in the Colonial School District. Through self-competitive activities, CHAMPIONS aims to get students moving, experience the benefits of regular exercise, and develop healthy lifestyle habits regardless of athletic ability.
The PAL / Champions Open House and Awards Ceremony on Dec. 14 will feature guest speakers, a modified CHAMPIONS workout and a student-recognition ceremony. The students will be rewarded with a ticket to the May 23, 2010 Blue Rocks game where all CHAMPIONS participants will be honored in a pre-game ceremony. This is all part of the Blue Rocks Healthy Youth Initiative, an initiative to support local programs that promote healthy lifestyles for kids in our community. The Blue Rocks plan to work with CHAMPIONS Powered by Titus Sports Academy as it continues to grow and impact lives in our area.
The CHAMPIONS program was launched in 2006 with 10 schools from Leon County (Tallahassee, FL) in a community partnership with a local HMO, Capital Health Plan. The program continues to expand and currently impacts close to 17,000 participants in 62 schools in north Florida. The goal of the program is to improve the health and fitness of our community's youth. For additional information about CHAMPIONS, visit www.MyChampions.com or email info@mychampions.com.
The Blue Rocks will open play in 2010 on April 8 in Myrtle Beach, SC against the Pelicans (Atlanta Braves). The home opener comes on April 16 with the first of a record 15 fireworks shows at Frawley Stadium this season as the Blue Crew hosts the Potomac Nationals (Washington Nationals). Every Friday in 2010 will have post-game fireworks at Frawley.
