Alexi Amarista Named To Topps Class A All-Stars

November 27, 2009 - Midwest League (MWL) Cedar Rapids Kernels

Kernels second baseman Alexi Amarista has been selected to the Topps Class A All-Star Team. The Topps Company of New York, NY in conjunction with Minor League Baseball is again honoring the best performances in all Minor League Baseball classifications.

Amarista (20), of Barcelona, Venezuela, led the Midwest League with a.319 batting average with the Kernels. He also finished second in the league with 39 doubles and 10 triples. The LA Angels signed Amarista as a non-drafted free agent in January 2007.

Amarista joins fellow MWL players 3b Josh Vitters of Peoria and OF Kyle Russell of Great Lakes on the Class A All-Star Team. The four full-season Class A leagues (California League, Midwest League, South Atlantic League, and Florida State League) were considered with Amarista the only Angels' player chosen.

The Kernels open the ninth season in Perfect Game Field at Veterans Memorial Stadium on Thursday, April 8 at 6:35 pm against the Beloit Snappers. Season tickets and 10-game anytime coupon books are on sale now at www.kernels.com, or in person at the stadium. Individual game tickets go on sale Monday, March 15, 2010 at 10 am.
