West Texas Roughnecks News Release
ODESSA, TX. : The Odessa Roughnecks are excited to announce on Tuesday, November 17, 2009 that the team has acquired former Mary Hardin-Baylor stand out defensive prospect, Eric Henri, for the 2010 season. Henri (6'1", 220 lbs.) was a three-year starter at outside linebacker for Mary Hardin-Baylor from 2006 through 2008. The Allen, Texas native produced an impressive statistical career while at UMHB. Before the start of his senior season in 2008, Henri was named the American Southwest Conference Preseason Defensive Player of the Year. Henri lived up to his honorary selection by leading the team with 97 total tackles with 11.5 tackles-for-loss and three sacks in 14 games played. Henri set a single-season school record by recording five fumble recoveries. Two of the five recoveries were returned for touchdowns versus Wesley College which also set a school single-game record. Henri was part of a defense that helped the Crusaders program finish 12-2 overall and win the ASC Conference Championship with an 8-0 conference record. The team reached the Division-III National Semi-finals in 2008 but lost to Wisconsin-Whitewater, 39-13.
Following the end of the 2008 season, Henri was voted the ASC Defensive Player of the Year and he was named a First Team All-Conference selection. Henri was also named to the Associated Press Little All-American Third Team. The Little All-American Team honors NCAA Division-II, Division-III and NAIA players.
"Eric was a very active player when we reviewed his film. He was making plays all over the field and he was certainly the most talented player on that defense. We feel that he is a player that has the speed and open-field tackling ability that will help our defense become better." stated Odessa Roughnecks Head Coach, Chris Williams.
In 13 games played during his junior season in 2007, Henri finished second on the team with 86 total tackles with 14.5 tackles-for-loss, 5.5 sacks and two fumble recoveries. His impressive 2007 season led to another ASC All-Conference First Team selection.
During his sophomore season in 2006, Henri registered 52 total tackles in 12 games played including 11 tackles-for-loss, 0.5 sack and two interceptions. Henri would be named to the ASC All-Conference First Team following his first year as a starter for the Mary Hardin-Baylor program. Henri is an alumnus of Lake Dallas High School.
