Calgary Stampeders News Release
The Calgary Stampeders and the 2009 Grey Cup Festival are pleased to donate a pair of Silver-section tickets to the 97th Grey Cup championship to the Kids Up Front Foundation, allowing one lucky child an opportunity to attend the game, up close and personal. The game will be played Nov. 29 at McMahon Stadium.
"We believe this is an amazing opportunity to give a young person their first experience of the Grey Cup. We are happy to provide these tickets to Kids Up Front and partner together in improving the lives of children in our community," says Scott Ackles, member of the 2009 Grey Cup Committee and president of the Calgary Stampeders.
More than 2,500 Stampeders game tickets were donated to Kids Up Front from season-ticket holders this past regular season. The total value of the Stamps tickets received this year was over $85,000.
Kids Up Front is a local charity that provides access to arts, culture, sport, and recreation for children and youth who would otherwise not have the opportunity. Through donated tickets, kids are provided with positive experiences that increase self-esteem, and help them develop better relationships with peer groups, support workers and family members. Tickets can also provide at-risk youth with incentives to become involved in healthier activities.
"Kids Up Front is thrilled to receive two tickets to the sold-out Grey Cup championship game. We have selected a student in Grade 6 to receive the tickets and he is very excited to go!" says Kari Scarlett, Executive Director. "And we are very grateful for the wonderful support the Calgary Stampeders have shown this year. Kids Up Front partners with over 150 charitable agencies to distribute tickets, reaching over 100,000 children and youth in the Calgary area. Many times this year we have had kids on waitlists for tickets to a Stamps game. With assistance from the Calgary Stampeders, the community has responded by increasing ticket donations this year, so that more kids have the opportunity to enjoy events in our City."
The 2009 Grey Cup Festival, "Canada's Game Calgary's Party", will be distinctly Canadian and showcase Calgary's famous western hospitality. For tickets and more event information log onto www.2009greycupfestival.com.
The next Stamps home game is the Western Division Semi-Final on Nov. 15 against the Edmonton Eskimos. Kickoff is 2:30 p.m. at McMahon Stadium. Limited tickets are still available and fans are encouraged to pick up their tickets by contacting Ticketmaster (403.777.0000 or online at Ticketmaster.ca) or visiting any local Safeway or Sport Chek location.
