Wilmington Blue Rocks News Release
Wilmington, DE - Thank you Blue Rocks fans! Your love for the Blue Rocks combined with some magnificent mouse trigger fingers for a Wilmington victory in The News Journal's Reader's Choice Awards as Delaware's "Best Place to Take a Kid." There was no doubt that Rocky Bluewinkle, Mr. Celery, Rubble and the gang deliver the best affordable, family entertainment in the Delaware Valley - but you fans let everyone else know about it too.
"The Blue Rocks philosophy has always been to be kid and family friendly," said general manager Chris Kemple. "It is an honor to be recognized by The News Journal and its readers as the best place to take a kid. We look forward to making things even bigger and better for the entire family in our upcoming 2010 season."
Your Blue Crew beat out 23 other nominees in the category to take the honor.
In 2009, no Carolina League squad averaged more fans per game than the Blue Rocks' mark of 4,723. In fact, Wilmington yet again paced the entire Advanced-A level in per-game attendance and ranked among the top 50 full-season teams in the country regardless of level.
The Blue Rocks will open play in 2010 on April 8 in Myrtle Beach, SC against the Pelicans. The home opener comes on April 16 with the first of a record 15 fireworks shows at Frawley Stadium this season as the Blue Crew hosts the Potomac Nationals. Every Friday in 2010 will have post-game fireworks at Frawley.
