Richmond Flying Squirrels News Release
RICHMOND, VA - The Richmond Flying Squirrels will team up with Puritan Cleaners and the Coats for Kids Drive, holding a special "Ballpark Warming Party" at The Diamond on Saturday, November 21st, from 10 AM - 2 PM. The Flying Squirrels are asking fans to bring coats for donation to The Diamond, where they will have the opportunity to witness ballpark renovations and improvements as part of guided tours of the ballpark. The Ballpark Warming Party is free of charge to fans of all ages.
"We plan on taking every opportunity to benefit this community in any way that we can," said Flying Squirrels' Vice President & COO Todd "Parney" Parnell. "We feel extremely fortunate that Puritan Cleaners has given us the chance to partner with such a well known and established program, and as we always will, we will run with that and put on a really fun day for everybody that comes out."
For each coat donated to Coats for Kids, fans will receive a raffle ticket and a chance to win baseball memorabilia and other great prize packages. Among the great prizes fans will have the chance to take home are; autographed baseballs from baseball Hall of Famers Paul Molitor and Brooks Robinson, autographed baseballs from Atlanta Braves Brian McCann and Tim Hudson, autographed memorabilia from baseball greats Cal Ripken, Jr. and Jim Palmer, ticket packages to the Sprint Cup Series Crown Royal 400 and Nationwide Series at Richmond International Raceway, prize packages from noted minor league teams, and many more.
The Ballpark Warming Party will feature a festival-style atmosphere as the Flying Squirrels welcome fans back to The Diamond. Fans will have the chance to participate in the Flying Squirrels' Home Run Derby, Quarterback Challenge, Skeeball Bonanza and other interactive games. The event will also feature arcade-style carnival games and karaoke on The Diamond's entryway stage.
"We're excited to be working with the Flying Squirrels on this event," said Puritan Cleaners President Gary Glover. "It's a chance for us to reach out to a new group of people, collect coats and support the new team in town. The Ballpark Warming Party should be a lot of fun, and we hope it's the first of many partnerships with the Squirrels. We're looking for a big crowd at The Diamond on the 21st."
In the continuing effort to guarantee children's warmth through the winter months, Puritan Cleaners has collected more than 300,000 coats since the program's inception 22 years ago.
