Former Knights Traded to Kansas City

November 6, 2009 - International League (IL) Charlotte Knights

FORT MILL, S.C. - November 6, 2009 - The Chicago White Sox have traded two former Knights to the Kansas City Royals. Third baseman Josh Fields and second baseman Chris Getz were traded to Kansas City in exchange for infielder/outfielder Mark Teahen. Both Fields and Getz had award winning season with the Knights.

Fields, 27, played for the Knights from 2006-09 and leaves the team amongst the Knights career leaders in every offensive category. Fields finishes his Charlotte career after 282 games played (5th in team history), 293 hits (2nd), 44 home runs (5th), 155 RBI (4th), 66 doubles (4th), 169 runs scored (tied-3rd), 143 walks (3rd) and 1041 at-bats (2nd).

Fields won the International League Rookie of the Year Award in 2006 and was named to both the IL mid and post-season all-star teams that season. Fields led the team hitting in '06 (.309, 141-462) in helping the Knights win the IL South Division Championship.

Fields appeared in 79 games with Chicago last season, going 53-239 (.222) with seven home runs and 30 RBI. The 6-foot-2, 225-pounder led all AL rookies with 23 home runs in 2007 and hit.229 (152-664) with 31 home runs and 101 RBI in 204 career games with the White Sox (2006-09).

Getz, 26, played for the Knights in 2008 and played in five games in 2009 as part of a major league rehab assignment. The second baseman was named to the IL mid and post-season all-star teams in 2008. He also participated in the 2008 MLB Futures Game at Yankee Stadium.

In Getz's lone season in Charlotte he played in 111 games hitting.302 (122-404), 11 home runs, 52 RBI and 11 stolen bases.

This season he hit.261 (98-375) with 18 doubles, four triples, two home runs, 31 RBI and 25 stolen bases in 107 games with the White Sox. He ranked among the AL rookie leaders in stolen bases (3rd), doubles (T4th), runs scored (5th, 49) and hits (5th).

The 5-foot-11, 170-pounder led the AL in stolen base percentage last season (92.6) and finished with the ninth-highest, single-season stolen base total by a rookie in club history.
