New Hampshire Fisher Cats News Release
Manchester, NH- The New Hampshire Fisher Cats, Double-A affiliate of the Toronto Blue Jays, have been named the Eastern League's top team for most outstanding promotional effort, community effort and overall operation for the second consecutive year, earning the league's nomination for Minor League Baseball's prestigious Larry MacPhail Promotional Trophy. Danielle Matteau, the Fisher Cats Director of Public Affairs, has been awarded the league's nomination for the Rawlings Woman Executive of the Year Award for the second straight season. The MacPhail Trophy and the Rawlings Award winners will be recognized at the Baseball Winter Meetings in Indianapolis, IN, on December 7.
"We are privileged and excited to be awarded this tremendous honor by the Eastern League for a second consecutive season," said Fisher Cats President Rick Brenner. "With so many deserving teams in the league vying for this award, we are humbled to again be recognized for the hard work and commitment our staff put forth all year long."
The Fisher Cats set seven franchise attendance records in 2009, highlighted by a single-season record 386,991 fans attending games at Merchantsauto.com Stadium, marking the sixth straight year of attendance growth. The club was recognized as the 'Best Sporting Venue to Bring a Client' in the NH Business Review's Best of Business (BOB) Awards for the second straight year, and Merchantsauto.com Stadium was a repeat winner as the Most Vegetarian Friendly Ballpark in Minor League Baseball in the annual rankings compiled by the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA). Since 2006, the Fisher Cats have helped charitable organizations raise over $1.5 million in goods and services for the local community.
"We are very proud of Danielle for earning our league's nomination for the Rawlings Woman Executive of the Year Award for the second straight season, and we offer our most heartfelt congratulations to her," said Brenner. "It is no accident that her individual honors have coincided with our team awards, as her leadership and performance have been integral to our overall success."
Matteau makes significant contributions to the team's day-to-day operations, holding a key role in marketing, promotions, business operations and community relations. She spearheads the club's successful internship program, oversees the game presentation, directs the team's marketing strategies and serves as a leading corporate advertising executive.
Matteau's honor headlines the list of individual accolades for the front office in 2009, which included the Fisher Cats Turf Crew winning the Pioneer Athletics Field of Excellence Award for having the top playing surface among New England professional, collegiate, high school and parks & recreation departments; and Mike Murphy, the voice of the Fisher Cats, being named the New Hampshire Sportscaster of the Year by the National Sportscasters & Sportswriters Association (NSSA).
