Gateway Grizzlies first baseman Joe Agreste was honored by Baseball America last week making the Independent League Top Prospects List.

The list, which can be found at, http://www.baseballamerica.com/today/minors/independent-audit/2009/268998.ht ml, features Agreste at number seven on the ten man list.

"Joe Agreste is a great young talent," said Grizzlies Manager Phil Warren. "He has clearly made the transition from aluminum to wood with no setbacks. His approach at the plate is further along than his age might dictate."

Agreste, a 2009 graduate of West Virginia University had a standout rookie season for the Grizzlies. In 175 at bats, he hit .303 with 53 hits, 18 doubles, four triples, and five home runs. Agreste drove in 33 runners and stole five bases. He was also solid defensively, committing only three errors in 46 games. He was named the Gateway Grizzlies Newcomer of Year.

Drafted by the Seattle Mariners in the 32nd Round of the 2006 Amateur Draft, Agreste chose to attend West Virginia where he excelled on the diamond. In his two year career, Joe batted .314 in 105 games. In 376 at bats, Agreste had 118 hits, 30 doubles, 8 triples, 11 home runs, and 96 RBI's. Agreste was name All-Big East Third Team in 2008.

"As well as he is doing now, he will only do better once he reaches his body's strength potential and is able to pull the inside pitch with authority consistently, Warren continued. "He is the first player to the field and the last to leave. He works harder than anyone else. He is a great clubhouse presence and a great example for the rest of the team to emulate. I am excited to see what the future holds for Joe and his career playing baseball! I firmly believe he is deserving of his rank on the Baseball America list."

The Grizzlies open their 10th Anniversary Season in the Frontier League in May of 2010. Season Ticket plans are currently on sale by calling the GCS Ballpark Box Office at 618.337.3000.
