PORTLAND, ME -- The Maine Red Claws, presented by Quirk Chevrolet, today announced that they will host a viewing party for the 2009 NBA D-League Draft at Binga's Stadium Smokehouse and Sports Bar located at 77 Free Street in Portland. The 2009 NBA D-League Draft will take place Thursday, November 5 beginning at 7 PM.

The NBA D-League Draft will feature more than 140 prospects, many of whom will have recently competed in NBA training camps and summer leagues. The live selection show highlights the 9th annual draft which offers NBA D-League teams the opportunity to build their rosters from the pool of promising players. Forty players previously selected in NBA D-League Drafts have earned Gatorade Call-Ups to the NBA, including Portland's Ime Udoka, Golden State's Mikki Moore and Houston's Chuck Hayes. The draft will be televised on NBA TV and streamed live online on NBA.com beginning at 7 PM.

"With each day that passes, we are one step closer to stepping on the court for the first time," said Maine Red Claws President and General Manager Jon Jennings. "We are today just 37 days from the start of training camp and 58 days from our home opener at the Expo. The draft on November 5 will be the next big piece to the puzzle as we start to really put together who will be the first to pull on the Red Claws jersey as part of our inaugural team."

Each of the NBA D-League's 16 teams will be given one pick in each of the eight rounds. No trades will be permitted during the draft and only players signed to an NBA Development League Standard Player Contract are eligible to be selected. The NBA D-League Draft utilizes a "serpentine" format, meaning the order will be reversed in each of the eight rounds. For example, the team picking last in the first round will select first in the second round, giving them the 16th and 17th overall choices.

The Red Claws were awarded the eighth pick in the 2009 NBA D-League Draft. Up to 17 players from the NBA D-League Expansion Draft, local tryouts, allocation picks and the draft will be invited to training camp in November.

MAINE RED CLAWS: 2009-10 will mark the inaugural season for the Maine Red Claws. The NBA D-League team will begin play in November at the Portland Expo Building. The franchise is owned and operated by Maine Basketball, LLC, which is principally owned by Bill Ryan Sr., the chairman of TD Bank, and Bill Ryan Jr., owner and operator of Oxford Plains Speedway. Jon Jennings, a partner in Maine Basketball, LLC and former Boston Celtics assistant coach, serves as the team's president and general manager.

NBA Development League: The NBA Development League, founded in 2001, is the NBA's official minor league whose teams have direct affiliations to NBA franchises. For the 2009-10 season, the league will feature 16 teams - including the debut of the Maine Red Claws and the Springfield Armor. A proven developer of talent, 20 percent of players in the NBA at the conclusion of the 2008-09 season boasted NBA D-League experience, while the league continues to develop coaches, referees, and front office staff for the NBA and its teams. In fostering the league's connection to the community, its teams, players and staff promote health and wellness, support local needs and interests, and assist in educational development through NBA D-League Cares programs. The NBA D-League also advances the game of basketball as the research and development arm of the NBA. Throughout the season fans can watch all NBA D-League games on NBA Futurecast, the free live Web-streaming initiative found at nba.com/futurecast.
