MARRIETTA, GA - The Southern League of Professional Baseball Clubs is pleased to announce that Birmingham Barons Corporate Event Planner Elizabeth Taylor has been named its Woman of Excellence, as voted upon by the league's general managers. Taylor also is the Southern League's nominee for the Rawlings Woman Executive of the Year Award, which is presented by Minor League Baseball at the Winter Meetings.

A native of Nashville, TN., Taylor was the project manager for the 2009 Southern League All-Star Game in July. Her efforts led to one of the most successful Southern League All-Star Games in recent memory as 7,127 fans poured into Regions Park that night.

Taylor is the first member of the Barons organization to win this award. In addition to her position as a Corporate Event Planner with the organization, she also assists with the game day operations of the Barons Souvenir Shop.

A graduate of Belhaven College in Jackson, MS., Taylor joined the Barons front office in 2008 after spending the previous year working as the merchandise manager at Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail at Oxymoor Valley. Prior to her work in the sports industry, Taylor spent the previous two years as a field representative for the Alabama Republican Party.

"Elizabeth did an incredible job with the Southern League All-Star Game this past July as well as during her two years with the organization. We are proud and honored that Elizabeth has received this prestigious award," Barons General Manager Jonathan Nelson said.

Taylor is the sixth recipient of the Woman of the Year Award. She joins Lori Webb of the Southern League, Betty Adams of the Mobile BayBears, Marla Terranova of the Montgomery Biscuits, Karlie Evatt of the Jacksonville Suns and Lauren Chesney of the Tennessee Smokies on the list of honorees.
