New Mexico Thunderbirds News Release
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M., Sept. 14, 2009 - The Albuquerque Thunderbirds and the YMCA of Central New Mexico have agreed to a partnership for the 2009-2010 season. Highlighting the agreement is the formation of a Jr. Thunderbirds YMCA youth basketball league, which will be open to kids from 4 to 17 years of age.
"I'm excited to partner with the YMCA and work with the area's youth," said Thunderbirds vice president of business operations Adam Minnick. "This is part of our new initiative to become more involved in the local community."
YMCA players and coaches will be given the opportunity to meet the Thunderbirds' players and coaches and work with them at various clinics. In addition to the on-court instruction, the Thunderbirds will also be hosting a YMCA group night and Jamboree kick-off event to begin the youth season.
"The YMCA of Central New Mexico is very excited about the new partnership that has been formed between the Albuquerque Thunderbirds and the YMCA," said YMCA of Central New Mexico president Doug Nakashima. "The YMCA invented basketball over 118 years ago and it makes a lot of sense to have the YMCA associated with our NBA Development League team. Coach Coffino and his staff will be hosting coaching clinics for our volunteer coaches and there will be player clinics also by with Coach Coffino. It is amazing to have an NBA D-League coach teach our young players and coaches the game of basketball!"
Registration for the Jr. Thunderbirds YMCA winter league will run from Nov. 7 to Dec. 4, and will be held at each of the Albuquerque and Rio Rancho YMCAs. The 2009-2010 youth season runs from Dec. - Mar.
Season Tickets are now on sale for as low as $4 per game. Call 505.265.3865 or visit www.abqtbirds.com for more information. Make plans now to be at opening weekend, Nov. 27 and 28.
