Championship Series Schedule Announced

SEVIERVILLE, Tenn. - The Tennessee Smokies, Class AA minor league affiliate of the Chicago Cubs, will open the 2009 Southern League Championship Series against the Jacksonville Suns in Jacksonville Tuesday night, as announced by the Southern League Monday. Games 1 & 2 will be in Jacksonville this Tuesday and Wednesday, with Games 3, 4 & 5 at Smokies Park this Friday-Sunday.

Tennessee, the second half Southern League North Division champion, defeated the first half North Division winner Huntsville 3-games-to-1 to move onto the championship series. The Smokies finished the second half of the season with a 39-31 record (71-69 overall). Tennessee last title came in 2004 when the team was declared co-champions with the Mobile BayBears.

Jacksonville won the second half South Division crown with a 47-23 record (82-58 overall). The Suns swept the first half South Division winner Birmingham Barons in the first round of the playoffs. Jacksonville's last title came during the 2005 season.
