2009 Southern League Championship Schedule Announced

MARIETTA, GA - The Southern League of Professional Baseball Clubs has announced the 2009 championship series schedule. The South Division Series champion Jacksonville Suns will host the North Division Series champion Tennessee Smokies tomorrow night for Game 1 of the best-of-five championship series. There will be a travel day between the second and third games of the series.

Tennessee, winners of the North Division second half title, defeated the Huntsville Stars three-games-to-one in the North Division series to earn a spot in the championship playoffs. After posting the league's best second half record at 47-23, Jacksonville swept the Birmingham Barons in the South Division Series.

Tennessee's last league title came in 2004, when the championship playoffs were cancelled due to Hurricane Ivan and the Smokies and the Mobile BayBears were declared co-champions. Jacksonville's most recent championship was in 2005, when the Suns defeated the West Tenn Diamond Jaxx three-games-to-one to earn the Billy Hitchcock Trophy.
