Columbus Cottonmouths News Release
Snakes forward Ryan McCarthy has re-signed with the Snakes and will return for his second full season in Columbus. An instant fan favorite since his arrival midway through the 2007-08 season, McCarthy's aggressive play brings unparalleled energy to the ice for the Snakes, and excitement for the fans.
"Since coming to Columbus, Ryan has been one of the hardest working guys, game in and game out," head coach Jerome Bechard said. "Like everyone, he's had his ups and downs, but he is always a gamer and comes to play when the chips are down. I am so glad to have him back, because he plays in-your-face, Cottonmouths-style hockey."
The Brampton, Ontario native spent four seasons at SUNY-Potsdam (2003-2007), recording 125 points in 90 games before beginning his professional career. He played two games with each the Port Huron IceHawks of the IHL and the Texas Brahmas of the CHL in 2007 before finding his home with the Snakes. McCarthy made an immediate impact, picking up eight points in his first seven games in Columbus. He finished the 2007-08 season with the Snakes, picking up 20 points in 37 games. He returned last year for his first full season, recording 33 points in 57 games.
"I can't wait to get back," McCarthy said. "I'm excited about the additions to the league, and really looking forward to returning to Columbus, seeing all our great fans and contending for a championship."
McCarthy joins four other returning Snakes who have signed for the 2009-10 season, including defenseman Andrew Dwyer, and veteran forwards Tim Green, Orrin Hergott and captain Craig Stahl. Rookie Jesse Cole has also signed with the Snakes for the upcoming season.
Season tickets are on sale now. The Snakes kickoff the 2009-10 season, Friday, Oct. 23 against the Fayetteville FireAntz at 7:30 p.m. Individual game tickets will go on sale to the public Monday, Oct. 5 at 10 a.m. For more information, contact 706 571 0086 or visit cottonmouths.com.
