Miller Time for Aces

Alaska Aces News Release

ANCHORAGE, Alaska - The Alaska Aces have signed defenseman Bryan Miller to a one-year contract for the 2009-10 season.

The 26-year-old Miller will be entering his third season with the Aces, having spent his first two pro campaigns in the New Jersey Devils organization, serving stints in Albany (AHL), Lowell (AHL) and Trenton (ECHL). The 5-10, 190-pounder established new career-highs in all major categories last season, appearing in 70 games (including nine in the AHL) and racking up 42 points, all but two in his 61 games for the Aces. He was one of 12 Aces to reach double digits in goals (finishing with 10) and turned in a solid +3 rating. Miller added 11 points (1g-10a) in 21 playoff games, helping Alaska reach Game 7 of the Kelly Cup Finals.

The Wayne, N.J., native earned a starting nod at the 2008 ECHL All-Star Game in his first year with the Aces, but did not play in the contest after suffering a season-ending injury at Victoria just before Christmas. He registered his first career hat trick earlier that season, against Fresno on November 16, 2007. Miller played four years at Boston University between 2001-05, leading all Terrier defensemen in scoring in both his sophomore and senior seasons, and finished his collegiate career with 88 points (20g-68a) in 153 games.

The Aces open the 2009-10 regular season at home against Victoria Oct. 16, 17 and 19, with all three games scheduled for a 7:15 p.m. start. Pre-season games against Kalamazoo at Sullivan Arena have been scheduled for Oct. 7 and 8 at 7:15 p.m. For those interested in Aces season tickets or corporate sponsorship information, regular office hours at the corner of 15th and Gambell are Monday through Friday between 8:30 a.m.-5:00 p.m.

Earlier this summer, Alaska's web site (www.alaskaaces.com) and marketing department each received an "Award of Excellence" from the ECHL. The web sites were reviewed by Phil Coffey, Senior Director of Editorial Content at www.nhl.com, the official web site of the National Hockey League. "Team sites have to promote a lot of different things and Alaska's site is not only organized but also is not crammed into a small space," said Coffey. The Aces beat out the other finalists in Bakersfield, South Carolina, Toledo, and Ontario.

Alaska earned its fourth marketing award in five years, including an honor for having the best campaign of the year in 2008. The Aces again nipped the Condors as well as Charlotte in voting for the award, which recognizes annually a well-rounded marketing, sponsorship, and advertising campaign.
