RiverKings Retain Potent Goal Scorer Chaumont

July 22, 2009 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Mississippi RiverKings News Release

(Southaven, MS) --- The Central Hockey League (CHL) Northeast Division champion Mississippi RiverKings will retain their goal scoring leader from last season. RiverKings' Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Kevin "Killer" Kaminski has announced the signing of forward Bobby Chaumont to the team's roster for the upcoming campaign.

Kaminski said it was great to re-sign his biggest offensive threat from last year's division championship season. "He has a knack to score goals; he's been a proven scorer at every level, and I think with the confidence and fun he had playing the game he will even have a more successful season."

A 24-year old native of Sudbury, Ontario, Chaumont led the RiverKings in goals scored with 28, playing in only 49 games of the regular season, due to injury. Among the red-lighters were nine power play goals, two shorthand goals and four game-winners.

The 28 goals were a personal career professional high, edging the 27 scored as a rookie with Laredo during the 2006-07 season. Chaumont had ten multi-point performances during the season, including a four-point night (goal, three assists) against Wichita on February 3rd.

Chaumont followed his regular-season efforts with seven more goals and 13 points in the playoffs. He scored the game-winning goal in game three of the Northern Conference semi-final series against Oklahoma City on April 1st (a 4-3 RiverKings victory) and again in game five of the Northern Conference finals series against Colorado on April 24th (a 6-2 RiverKings victory).

Accolades came Chaumont's way during his first season in the Mid-South. He was named the November CHL Three Stars Award winner, the CHL Player of the Week on January 26th, and was named to the CHL All-Star Team, assisting on a goal during the event.

Beyond the statistics, Kaminski also saw Chaumont growing his game in other areas and expects that growth to continue. "He's learning what it takes to do all the little things to play at both ends of the ice to become a complete player. He was one of our best penalty killers as well. His leadership will be huge on the ice and in the locker room. He is also a big asset to the community."

Chaumont is excited about the chance to come back and complete some unfinished business in the playoffs. "I like the fact that Killer is bringing in a lot of the same guys and I think that we'll have a good chance of doing well again this year and I'm happy to be a part of it," Chaumont said. "I want to out-match the numbers I had last year, but I think the main goal is for us to win a championship."

Last year was Chaumont's second season in the Central Hockey League, and first with the RiverKings, following a strong rookie campaign with Laredo two years before. That season, Bobby was a member of the CHL All-Rookie Team, set career professional highs for assists, points and penalty minutes.

Chaumont's professional background also includes one season with the Dayton Bombers of the ECHL in 2007-08, junior hockey with Sudbury of the Ontario Hockey League and Canadian collegiate hockey at Dalhousie University (Nova Scotia).
