Mei, who has spent the past three seasons in Corpus Christi becomes the second defenseman and seventh player signed by the IceRays. He also is the fifth returning player from last season's squad. Mei has been with Corpus Christi since 2006, and he joins forwards Adam Powell and Justin Quenneville as the longest tenured IceRays players. Mei, 30, returns to Corpus Christi for his fourth straight season. After playing his rookie year with Adirondack of the then-UHL, Mei has appeared in 166 regular season games for the IceRays over the last three seasons. The defensive-minded blue liner from Sault St. Marie, Ontario still chipped in with 14 points (3g, 11a) in 40 games last season during an injury-plagued campaign. He also added 90 penalty minutes and finished the season a +8.

Mei was off to a fine two-way start last year posting six points in his first 12 games of the season, before he landed on the IR. He rejoined the team to help the IceRays to their second playoff appearance in three seasons. Last season Corpus Christi had a 19-17-4 record with Mei in the lineup. Mei's contributions on the ice are mirrored by those in the community as well. One of the more recognizable faces of the IceRays for the past few seasons, Mei is consistently making public appearances at schools, charities and sponsors and regarded as one of the IceRays fan favorites.

IceRays Head Coach Brent Hughes, who has a history of building successful teams around the defense makes Mei the first returning defenseman from last season. He said that Mei's importance to the club can't be overlooked.
