Philadelphia Wings News Release
The Philadelphia Wings have acquired Kevin Huntley and Bill McGlone in a multiple team deal following today's dispersal draft. The Wings first round dispersal draft selection, Pete Jacobs, and the team's second round selection in the 2011 Entry Draft were sent to the Toronto Rock as part of the deal. Huntley was acquired by Toronto from the Washington Stealth in exchange for Luke Wiles in a previous trade.
In addition to their selection of Pete Jacobs (fourth overall), the Wings picked up goaltender Matthew Flindell (15 overall) as well as Derek Malawsky (26 overall) in today's NLL dispersal draft.
"We added four very good players to our roster today and we are excited to have them join our team," said Wings Head Coach Dave Huntley.
Huntley, who was originally drafted fifth overall in the 2008 NLL Entry Draft by the Stealth, but did not play in 2009. As a collegiate player at Johns Hopkins University he helped his team win two national championships and was a two time All-American. Huntley was also the 2008 Major League Lacrosse Rookie of the Year for the Los Angeles Riptide and is currently an All-Star selection for the MLL's Washington Bayhawks.
McGlone, a graduate of Ridley High School, has scored 78 points (40G 38A) and picked up 179 loose balls in 42 career games played. He was originally drafted 41 overall in the 2006 NLL Entry Draft by Chicago and played his collegiate lacrosse at the University of Maryland where he was a three time All-American. He currently plays for the MLL's Chicago Machine.
Flindell, who played in nine games during his rookie season in Portland, finished the season with a record of 1-1. He stopped 90 shots on 114 attempted for a .789 save percentage and a goals against average of 11.60. Flindell was originally drafted 61 overall in the 2008 NLL Entry Draft.
Malawsky, originally drafted 11 overall in the 1997 by the Ontario Raiders, has scored 649 points (233G 416A) in 160 career NLL games and picked up 877 loose balls. In 2009, he ranked fourth on the Lumberjax with 52 points (19G 33A).
Today's dispersal draft was due to the Portland Lumberjax ceasing operations in June. All remaining teams in the NLL were given the opportunity to claim the available players on the Lumberjax active roster. The Edmonton Rush selected four-time All-Star Brodie Merrill with the first overall pick. For full draft details visit NLL.com.
