Augusta GreenJackets News Release

Augusta, GA - In front of one of their largest crowds of the year, the Augusta GreenJackets delivered a 14-hit onslaught in a 9-2 win over the Lexington Legends to split a four-game series in the final meeting of the year between the two teams in front of 5,722 fans at Lake Olmstead Stadium on Friday night. The crowd was the second largest of the season for the GreenJackets.

Augusta controlled from the get-go with Charlie Culberson knocking in a first-inning run on a single and Andy D'Alessio plating two more in the third to grow the lead to 3-0.

The Jackets doubled the lead to 6-0 in the fifth inning off Lexington starter Brad Dydalewicz and never looked back. With five hits in the inning, including a double by Josh Mazzola to bring home a pair and a Juan Perez run-scoring single, Augusta cruised behind a fantastic start by Ari Ronick.

Ronick (6-4) struck out a season-high nine hitters, including six of the nine Legends hitters facing him the second time through the order. He allowed just two runs on seven hits with a pair of walks to go with the season-high strikeout total.

Lexington chased Ronick in the sixth and threatened to pull to within striking distance. Ronald Ramirez singled home a run and Ronick walked Eric Suttle with the bases full. Chris Wilson came out of the bullpen to strike out Ebert Rosario with the bases loaded to preserve a four-run lead.

James Simmons added a two-run homer in the seventh and Juan Perez drew a bases-loaded walk as the Legends never again threatened.

Dydalewicz (4-3) fired 4.1 innings in the loss, allowing six runs on eight hits with two walks and three strikeouts. For the GreenJackets, Wilson's 2.1 inning stint was good enough to earn the righty his second save of the year. He struck out two and allowed one hit.

The GreenJackets will head north to Kentucky for the Fourth of July to make their second appearance in Bowling Green against the Bowling Green Hot Rods. Mike Loree (4-5, 3.99) will get the start for Augusta while the Rods will counter with Shane Dyer (1-6, 5.07). First pitch from Bowling Green comes at 8:05 p.m. and the game will be broadcast on WRDW AM 1630 and online at www.greenjacketsbaseball.com.
