
Braves Win Thriller

Rome, GA - It took ten innings but the Rome Braves defeated the Augusta GreenJackets 6-5 in front of 2,020 fans at State Mutual Stadium Sunday afternoon. The win stopped a six game losing streak.
Rome scored two in the first inning as Braeden Schlehuber and Gerry Rodriguez both singled putting runners on the corners. A double steal scored the first run as Schlehuber crossed the plate. Matt Kennelly later singled to score Rodriguez giving Rome the 2-0 lead.
Augusta went ahead 4-2 in the third. Jose Flores walked and Charlie Culberson was hit by a pitch. Dom Duggan laid down a sacrifice bunt and a throwing error allowed Flores to score moving Culberson to third and Duggan to second. Josh Mazzola then drove the ball in the gap for two bases scoring Culberson and sending Duggan to third. Andy D'Alessio later singled scoring Mazzola and Ehire Adrianza hit a sacrifice fly to score Mazzola giving Augusta a 4-2 advantage.
The GreenJackets added a run in the fifth and Rome scored one in the seventh making the score 5-3. The Braves tied the game in the bottom of the ninth as Ryan Barba singled and pinch hitter Stephen Shults walked. Schlehuber grounded into a force out at second moving Barba to third. Luis Sumoza walked loading the bases for Rodriguez who singled to left tying the game 5-5.
In the tenth, Samuel Sime singled to left after one out, moved to second on a pass ball, and stole third. Jahdiel Santamaria proceeds to get the game winning hit with a shot to right field scoring Sime for the 6-5 victory.
Angelo Paulino (4-3) gets the win for Rome pitching just one inning and striking out two. Christopher Wilson (1-3) takes the loss for Augusta
