Camden Riversharks News Release
The Camden Riversharks defeated the Long Island Ducks tonight, by a final score of 7-6. Camden pitcher Tom Davey (6-2) picked up the win, as he pitched 6 innings, allowing 9 hits, and 6 runs, while fanning 2 batters. The loss was charged to Long Island reliever Mike Hrynio (0-2), who gave up the go ahead run to the Riversharks in the 4th inning. Closer Felix Rodriguez pitched a scoreless ninth for his 3rd save of the year. With the win, the Riversharks' season tally improves to 27-31, while Long Island falls to 30-28.
Long Island got off to a hot start, and roughed up Riversharks pitcher Tom Davey for four runs in the first inning. The first three batters of the game all reached base safely, loading the bases for designated hitter Victor Rodriguez. Rodriguez lined a base hit up the middle for an RBI single that drove in Ray Navarrete and Matt Cavagnaro. The next batter of the inning was Estee Harris, whose ground out to first base plated Kyle Reynolds, and gave the Ducks a quick 3 run lead. Long Island would tack on 1 more run in the inning, courtesy of an RBI single by catcher John Pachot, and take an early 4-0 advantage.
The Riversharks answered back in the second inning, and cut Long Island's lead in half. Left fielder Jon Knott drew a lead off walk, and then first baseman Jose Leon crushed a fly ball to right field for a two run homerun. The homerun was his first of the year.
The Ducks extended their lead in the top of the third inning, as Harris picked up his 7th homerun of the season, a solo blast to deep right field. But the Sharks showed their resilience, and countered in the bottom of the inning. With two runners in scoring position, shortstop Bryant Nelson laid down a perfectly executed bunt that scored catcher Frederick Torres. The next batter was second baseman Junior Spivey, whose sacrifice fly to center field plated Chris Walker and made the score 5-4 in favor of Long Island.
The scoring continued for the visitors in the 4th inning, as they extended their lead by one more run. With one out and runners on the corners, Navarette grounded into a fielder's choice, driving home Johnny Hernandez, and upping the score to 6-4 in favor of the Ducks.
Camden rallied with three runs in the bottom of the 4th, and took a 7-6 lead. With two runners in scoring position, third baseman Brian Burgamy laced a double into center field, scoring Leon and Vito Chiaravollotti. Three batters later, Walker lined a single to right field, driving home Burgamy and giving the Riversharks a 7-6 lead.
With a one run lead in the ninth inning, the Sharks put the ball in the hands of closer Felix Rodriguez to finish off the Ducks. Rodriguez allowed just one hit and closed the door on Long Island, giving Camden the 7-6 win.
The Riversharks and Ducks will wrap up their four game series tomorrow at 1:35PM. Right-handed pitcher Nate Bump (8-2, 1.90) will take the hill for the Sharks, and will be opposed by Long Island's right hander, BJ Laura (4-4, 4.23). Limited seating for the game is still available.
