Bowers has shuffled the deck acquiring three new players in a series of transactions.
The Capitals traded second baseman Gary Harris to the Joliete JackHammers of the Northern League in exchange for right-handed hitter Joey Gomes. The native of Marin, California has been used primarily this season as a first baseman and designated hitter. Gomes was originally an 8th round draft pick of the Tampa Bay Devil Rays in 2002. Harris, who played with the JackHammers in 2006 before his contract was purchased by the Philadelphia Phillies returns to the JackHammers for his second stint. Gomes is the older brother of former Devil Ray and current Cincinnati Red Jonny Gomes.
Meanwhile, the Caps also signed left-handed pitcher David Moraga.
"We're excited to be bringing in players of such high caliber." Stated Bowers, "Both Gomes and Moraga were all-stars in the Northern League and whenever you can bring guys in with that kind of experience, it can only help your club."
Bowers also recalled Australian Mitch Graham from Medicine Hat of the WMBL. Graham was one of the last cuts for the Capitals at the conclusion of training camp was batting..345 for Medicine Hat and was tied for second place in the WMBL with 4 doubles.
To make room in the bullpen, the Caps placed Aaron Easton on the inactive list. First baseman Joe Jiannetti was also released.
