Tulsa Drillers News Release

The Midland RockHounds got three first-inning runs and a strong starting performance from Graham Godfrey Sunday night and defeated the Tulsa Drillers 6-1. The loss was the second straight for the Drillers and dropped them two games behind first-place Springfield in the North Division standings of the Texas League.

Tulsa's only run of the game came in the top of the first inning. Three straight singles from Daniel Mayora, Jeff Kindel and Mike McKenry would be the only damage against Godfrey.

The lead was erased in the bottom of the first as the first four hitters reached base safely against Tulsa starter Keith Weiser. Leadoff hitter Archie Gilbert singled, and Joshua Horton reached on an error by Mayora. Chris Carter walked in front of a run-scoring single by Tommy Everidge. Adrian Cardenas brought home the second run with a sacrifice fly, while Josh Donaldson plated the final run of the inning with an RBI ground out.

In the second inning, Matthew Spencer doubled and scored on another base hit by Gilbert to up Midland's lead to 4-1.

The same combination struck again in the fourth as Spencer tripled and scored on Gilbert's third hit of the game.

The Hounds completed the scoring when Matthew Sulentic doubled and scored on another RBI single by Gilbert. The hit capped a perfect 4-4 night for the Midland outfielder.

McKenry and Michael Paulk each had two hits for the Drillers.

Weiser (3-5) was charged with the loss after allowing seven hits and six runs (4 ER) in 5 2/3 innings.

Godfrey surrendered seven hits in seven innings, but allowed only the first inning run while improving his record to 5-4.

The Drillers will complete their six-game road trip Monday night in Midland. Esmil Rogers (4-1, 2.56 ERA) will try for his fifth straight victory for Tulsa, while the RockHounds will send Carlos Hernandez (3-0, 4.50 ERA) to the mound with first pitch scheduled for 7:00PM.
