Allen Americans News Release
ALLEN, TX - June 5, 2009 - The Allen Americans, the Dallas Stars Central Hockey League affiliate, announced the signings of three key players for its inaugural season today. Centers Jarret Lukin, Justin Bowers and Chris Gaudet have committed to playing for the club for the 2009-2010 season.
"We are extremely excited about the signings of these three franchise players. They all bring skill, character and leadership to our organization," General Manager and Head Coach Dwight Mullins said Friday.
Mullins, along with Associate Coach and Director of Player Personnel Bill McDonald, have built a strong foundation for their team down the middle. Lukin, Bowers and Gaudet all have experience playing in the American Hockey League (AHL), which is considered to be the Triple-A equivalent in the hockey world.
The three athletes come from the Dayton Bombers of the ECHL, where McDonald acted as head coach.
Lukin, a left-handed center, played in the ECHL for the past three seasons. The 25-year-old accumulated 49 points in 66 games for the Bombers last season. He also played for the University of Calgary and played five seasons in the Western Hockey League, the Major Junior league based in Canada and the Pacific Northwest of the U.S. Lukin stands at 6 feet, weighs 185 and hails from Fort McMurray, Alberta.
Bowers, 24, racked up 15 goals and 30 assists in 44 games for the Bombers last year. Prior to that, the Nova Scotia native played for St. Thomas University, in the Maritime Junior A Hockey League (MJAHL) and the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL). The right-handed forward is 6 feet tall and weighs 186 pounds.
Gaudet, born in Memramcook, New Brunswick, had 41 points and 74 penalty minutes in 72 games for the Bombers last season. The left-handed forward also played in the QMJHL with the Moncton Wildcats. Gaudet, who turns 23 June 15, checks in at 6 feet tall and 191 pounds.
"We set out to attract players that have a passion to get to the next level, and these three possess that," Mullins said.
