Real Salt Lake News Release
SANDY, UTAH (Friday, June 5, 2009) - Real Salt Lake (3-6-2, 11 pts.) will return to Sandy tomorrow, Saturday, June 6, for a huge night at Rio Tinto Stadium, with the Utah side set to host the first of two home legs in the 2009 Rocky Mountain Cup series against the archrival Colorado Rapids (4-2-4, 16 pts.). The RSL-Rapids match is part of the "Charity Begins at Home" event at Rio Tinto Stadium, presented by Merit Medical Systems, Inc., a special Celebration of our Military featuring Utah musical sensation David Archuleta, the important Western Conference showdown, the Official Dedication of the Stadium, and a post-game fireworks show.
A limited amount of tickets for Saturday's big night in Sandy are still available by calling 800-838-3800, online at www.RioTintoStadium.com, or in person at the Rio Tinto Stadium Box Office, open Monday-Friday from 10:00 a.m.-6:00 p.m. and on game days beginning at 10:00 a.m. Those fans that can't make it to Sandy can follow the action live nationwide on Fox Soccer Channel, whose three-hour broadcast window will begin with a 30-minute pre-game show at 7:30 p.m. MT. Fans can also tune in to RSL's official radio partners: KALL 700 Sports (America First Credit Union Pre-Match Report begins at 7:00 p.m.) and "Ke Buena" 1600-AM.
Included below is information on specific activities and events surrounding tomorrow night's big event in Sandy:
Gates to Rio Tinto Stadium for the contest will open at 6:00 p.m., 90 minutes prior to the 7:30 p.m. event. Media Will Call (west side Box Office) will open at 6:00 p.m. for media members needing to collect day-of-game credentials and parking passes in advance of the contest. The Rio Tinto Stadium Box Office and Ticket Will Call windows will open at 10:00 a.m. The RSL Team Store at Rio Tinto Stadium (located in the Stadium's northeast corner) also opens at 10:00 a.m., and will continue its "Item of the Week" special - the RSL Bottle Opener Key Chain, RSL Die Cut Magnet, and the RSL Precision Cut Magnet combo for $18 (a $9 savings) - through the end of the contest. The RSL Merchandise Department encourages fans to take advantage of its "We Score, Fans Score" gameday special at its "U-$20 Booth" across from Section 37 (east concourse). All items at the booth - including the new line of pennants, parking signs and cinch sacks - start at $20 and under, with prices being slashed 10% every time the Claret-and-Cobalt strike the back of the net (up to 40% off, discount cannot be combined with any other offers). In addition to these specials, the RSL Team Store has restocked its shelves with the latest official RSL/adidas gear, including all sizes of jerseys and T-shirts, and a new shipment of RSL scarves. The popular Carnival Real pre-game festival opens up at 5:00 p.m. and will include a 2-hour performance by the U.S. Air Force Rock Band, Max Impact, followed by the Weber State Drumline performing at 7:00 p.m. before leading a parade of fans into the stadium. Other activities will include the Western Union's "Kiss the Rocky Mountain Cup" booth, the Zions Bank Jr. Loyalist RSL Cinch Sack redemption booth, the Salt Lake County Fire Department's fire safety simulation trailer, the U.S. Air Force's Stealth Bomber simulator, and the always-fun carnival area, featuring a 3-v-3 field for pick-up play, inflatable games and sponsor giveaways. Pre-game festivities continue inside the stadium at 7:45 p.m., when the U.S. Air Force Wings of Blue parachute team will deliver the Official Game Ball and the RSL, Air Force, POW/MIA, and American flags from the skies over Sandy directly to midfield. The "Charity Begins at Home" Dedication Ceremony will begin shortly after 7:45 p.m., followed by the singing of the National Anthem by Utah's own David Archuleta. The unfurling of the American Flag at midfield will be performed by the Utah National Guard, with a flyover by two KC135 jets, piloted by members of the Utah Air National Guard, punctuating the National Anthem. Real Salt Lake and Soccer Balls for Peace invite fans on game day to give back by bringing their new or gently used soccer balls to the Merit Medical booth located in Carnival Real. Additional bins will be located at the VIP entrance on the Stadium's west side and the northwest Spanish steps. The humanitarian efforts of Soccer Balls for Peace involves members of the U.S. Military collecting donated soccer balls and distributing them to children in different war torn areas of the world. Following the game, David Archuleta will continue to entertain fans with a four-song performance from his self-titled debut album, with the first fireworks extravaganza of the season set to end the evening. Weather forecast for kickoff: Partly sunny and 65 degrees.
