
Generals OL Polo Gutierrez Signs With Buffalo Bills

EL PASO, TX. : The El Paso Generals were excited to announce that offensive lineman, Polo Gutierrez, has been acquired by the Buffalo Bills. Gutierrez (6'3", 290 lbs.) has been a stand out offensive lineman this season for the El Paso Generals and became a key factor in protection of stand out quarterback Tommy Jones. Gutierrez was signed to the Buffalo Bills on Wednesday, June 3 and he will join the Bills in about two weeks.
Gutierrez played his college ball at New Mexico State University and as a Senior in 2008 he started in all 13 games beginning the season at the right guard position and then had a strong showing at right offensive tackle before the season wrapped up. Polo got the attention of NFL scouts in â08 by running a 5.02 second 40-yard dash and registering a 31 inch vertical jump.
As a Junior in 2007, Gutierrez started all 13 games for the Aggies at the right guard position. He helped the Aggie offense average 331.0 yards passing per game and 423.5 total offensive yards a game. He additionally helped quarterback Chase Holbrook finish ninth in the nation in total offense with 322.6 yards per game. Gutierrez was a key factor on an offensive line that put together a 16 sack improvement from 2006.
Polo made the jump from the defensive line to the offensive line as a Sophomore in 2006. He once again started every game for the Aggies helping quarterback Chase Holbrook break 21 school records that season. As a team, the Aggies broke three total offensive records, six passing records and tied the school's scoring record. He helped the Aggies finish third in the nation in total offense, second in passing offense and 15th in scoring offense. He also helped the Aggies record five 100-yard rushing games as a team.
Polo was born in Laredo, Texas and was a three-year starter at Carroll High School. He played center, guard and tackle while at Carroll. He helped Carroll register a 7-4 record his Junior season including a 4-1 mark in district 28-5A play. He was All-District for three years.
