Wild and Extreme to Battle for Playoff Position
The Wichita Wild of the Indoor Football League (IFL) will travel to Illinois this week for a Saturday showdown with the Bloomington Extreme. The Extreme (7-4) currently hold a 1.5 game lead over the Wild (5-5) for second place in the Central Division. Kickoff at U.S. Cellular Coliseum is scheduled for 7:05 PM and Wild fans can watch the game live for $7 online at www.b2livetv.com.
The Wild have displayed plenty of firepower on offense throughout the 2009 season. Running back Darius Fudge is the second leading rusher in the IFL with 564 yards and trails only Sioux Falls' Sean Treasure. The Wild have also been very dangerous through the air this season with Wide receiver Clinton Solomon's play-making ability leading the way for the Wild's aerial attack. Solomon has managed to lead all IFL receivers this season in receiving yards despite missing two games with injury and being the focal point of opposing defenses. Solomon should expect plenty of help this week with the return of last season's leading receiver Donald Payne.
Wichita linebacker LaMont Reid is coming off a week in which he was named IFL Defensive Player of the Week after recording 13 tackles in last week's victory over the Sioux City Bandits. Reid leads the Wild defense in tackles this season with 55.5.
The quarterback position in Bloomington has been in flux all season. Dusty Burk should get the start on Saturday for the Extreme. Burk was a UIF All-Star in 2007 and 2008 and has played n one game this season after joining the team just a few weeks ago. Extreme wide receiver Peter Warrick was a former 4th overall draft pick by the Cincinnati Bengals in the 2000 NFL Draft and star receiver and kick-returner for the Florida State Seminoles. On the season, Warrick has recorded 43 receptions for 482 yards and 11 touchdowns this season.
On defense, the Extreme are lead by a secondary that has a knack for creating turnovers. Etrich Pruitt and James Temple are tied for the team lead with 7 interceptions a piece, while Laroche Jackson has added another 6 interceptions. In total, the Bloomington defense has recorded 23 interceptions, the most by any team in the IFL, and they are +13 in the turnover margin.
The Wild will return home on Saturday, June 13 to face the Omaha Beef. The game is sure to have major playoff implications. Tickets for all home games are available at the Hartman Arena Box Office, by phone at 316-927-3999, stage1tickets.com and all Stage 1 Ticket Outlets.
