Quakes Beat Lancaster 9-5

May 17, 2009 - California League (CalL) Rancho Cucamonga Quakes

Rancho Cucamonga, CA- For the second straight night Lancaster plated multiple runs in the 1st inning, as Jason Castro doubled in a run and Koby Clemens collected an RBI single with two outs to give the JetHawks a 2-0 lead.

Rancho would score a run in the bottom of the 1st after Clay Fuller singled, went to third on an error and scored on a Matt Sweeney groundout to make the score 2-1.

The Quakes would tie the score in the 2nd with two outs as Brian Walker doubled off the center field wall to score Efren Navarro, who had singled, to even up the game 2-2.

The JetHawks regained the lead in the 4th inning scoring three runs on an infield single by Nick Moresi and a two-run single by JB Shuck to grab a 5-2 lead.

Rancho would answer with two runs of their own in the 4th on an RBI triple by Jeremy Moore to score Julio Perez, who led off the inning with a double, and another two-out RBI hit by Brian Walker to bring Rancho within a run, 5-4.

The Quakes offense took over in the 5th as Clay Fuller led off with a single and was sacrificed to second by Andrew Romine. After Matt Sweeney pooped up to short, Julio Perez followed with a two-out RBI single to tie the game 5-5. Efren Navarro walked and Jeremy Moore singled to right to score Perez to give the Quakes a one run lead. With runners on the corners, Moore tried to steal second, but got caught in a run down allowing Navarro to score from third to give the Quakes a 7-5 edge.

Rancho would add on in the 7th as Matt Sweeney and Julio Perez hit back to back doubles which tallied one run, and Jeremy Moore singled to center to drive in Perez for another run to give the Quakes a 9-5 lead.

The Quakes bullpen was outstanding, pitching 4.2 innings of relief allowing no runs on just three hits, while striking out six.

Rancho will send left hander Alexander Torres to the mound against left hander Shane Wolf of the JetHawks for game three of the four game series. Game time is scheduled for 2:05pm.
